This is my first Fredrik Backman book and I decided to go with this one. It’s basically a short novella about Noah’s grandpa losing his memory and dying. In the wake of Noah’s memory loss his grandpa See’s his son Ted when he was a young boy and gets him confused with his grandson Noah. He also sees he late wife who passed earlier on. The old man is trying to remember and reflect on what seems the best memories he had with his family, and he is holding on to that.
I actually really enjoyed reading this I also liked the artwork in the story which gave this novella a nice touch. In the near future I would like to read more of this author’s work since I enjoyed reading his shorter book.
Hey Kiddo is a graphic memoir about the author’s life growing up. He talks heavily about the absent of his mother and her being addicted to drugs. He was raised by his grandparents while his mother was in and out of his life.
Jarrett Krosoczka picked up a big talent and that was drawing, that all he wanted to do with his life was draw and paint and he was very good at it.
Throughout the story I felt all kinds of emotions for Jarrett and his situation. But in the end he remained strong and positive and didn’t fall down the same path as his mother. He had a dream of going to college and making something of himself, which he did.
This story is inspiring and encouraging and I enjoyed the positive ending, the artwork was cool as well.
This is a “Read Me Romance” podcast book that I chose randomly. I told myself I wanted to start reading the books from the podcast this year, so I just chose this to start with. This Piper and Dylan’s story. Piper and Dylan are best friends have been since the early years of college. They both love each other but don’t want to cross that line and potentially ruin their friendship. I enjoyed the ending to this story it was nice HEA and overall a sweet story. I like that the story mentioned a snowstorm because at the time of me reading this the north east in the US is experiencing snow and cold weather so I feel this story fit right in. In the end I rate this a 4.5β it was nice and cute and with a good ending.
So I finally uploaded a new video on my YouTube channel talking about my current Reads for this up coming week. At this point in time I’m in the mood to read everything, which for me is a good thing.
Here in the video please check it out and let me know if you have read any of these. All of these books I’m very excited for it.
Thanks for watching my new video and stopping my by blog
Marjorie Glatt feels like a ghost. A practical thirteen year old in charge of the family laundry business, her daily routine features unforgiving customers, unbearable P.E. classes, and the fastidious Mr. Saubertuck who is committed to destroying everything sheβs worked for. Wendell is a ghost. A boy who lost his life much too young, his daily routine features ineffective death therapy, a sheet-dependent identity, and a dangerous need to seek purpose in the forbidden human world. When their worlds collide, Marjorie is confronted by unexplainable disasters as Wendell transforms Glattβs Laundry into his midnight playground, appearing as a mere sheet during the day. While Wendell attempts to create a new afterlife for himself, he unknowingly sabotages the life that Marjorie is struggling to maintain.
Book Review:
Sheets tells the story of a girl, Marjorie who works at her family’s laundry mat and only wants to feel invisible. Her mom died not long ago and her dad is basically deeply depressed and won’t leave his room.
Marjorie just wants to get though her school days and work and come home. That is until she meets Wendell the ghost. Marjorie and Wendell eventually end up having a good friendship. What got on my nerves was this big belly Mr. Saubertuck trying his damn best to take Marjorie’s family business away and he felt like he could and say whatever he wanted to get his way.
In the end I enjoyed this story. The art work was nice to look at. I felt it was different and wasn’t your typical drawings but still brought the story to life.Β
In the lands of Bethel, where the Prophetβs word is law, Immanuelle Mooreβs very existence is blasphemy. Her motherβs union with an outsider of a different race cast her once-proud family into disgrace, so Immanuelle does her best to worship the Father, follow Holy Protocol, and lead a life of submission, devotion, and absolute conformity, like all the other women in the settlement.
But a mishap lures her into the forbidden Darkwood surrounding Bethel, where the first prophet once chased and killed four powerful witches. Their spirits are still lurking there, and they bestow a gift on Immanuelle: the journal of her dead mother, who Immanuelle is shocked to learn once sought sanctuary in the wood.
Fascinated by the secrets in the diary, Immanuelle finds herself struggling to understand how her mother could have consorted with the witches. But when she begins to learn grim truths about the Church and its history, she realizes the true threat to Bethel is its own darkness. And she starts to understand that if Bethel is to change, it must begin with her.
Review:
So I had to DNF this @ 62% I really didn’t want to but continuing on to finish this was making me fall into a reading slump that’s when I know I have to give up reading this.
So this isn’t a bad story at all it’s just all over the place for me. I picked this up for two reasons because I assumed there will be a story about witches and magic and also because of the bookclub I’m in.
Immanuel is basically shunned because of her mother’s sins. There’s talk about a plauge and Immanuel is trying to uncover more about it. Very little talk about witches, and when you do hear from them it’s much later in the story.
I wanted to like this, but this didn’t work for me at all. I didn’t really care for the style of writing. Maybe …just maybe I might pick this back up in the future but for now it’s a 2.5 star
I know a lot of people love this book but when a story is making me dred reading I know I have to stop what I’m reading. Once again not a bad story, it just didn’t work for me.
